There's always something to do at Centennial Park, one of Toronto's busiest parks. Located at the northwest corner of Toronto, this park is home to the Etobicoke Olympium, Centennial Park Ski hill and Chalet, Centennial Arena, Centennial Park Conservatory and Centennial Park Stadium. The park also has a number of playgrounds, sport fields, baseball and softball diamonds, picnic areas and a wading pool. Centenial was opened in 1967 to celebrate Canada's 100th birthday. The land the park now occupies was once a dairy farm. A large portion of this farm was purchased by the City of Toronto to create the park. The ski hill now sits atop what was once a municipal dump. It was closed and covered over to provide users with an intermediate ski slope, a beginner slope and a snowboard slope. Centennial Park and the Etobicoke Olympian will be two of the major sporting venus for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

    My work decided to do a company wide game of baseball. At first all we did was lose but as we enjoyed the beautiful weather and the amazing park that surrounded, winning was not part of the day at all. it was sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the exercise we were getting for running around all the baseball diamonds :)

    To start off,
    Camp Centennial is where I worked as a day camp counsellor teaching children from age 4 to 14 how to love nature and treat the environment with respect. This vision is valued very much at Centennial and I think its important for our young citizens to understand that our actions are paired with damaging consequences. All while enjoying the outdoors, we would demonstrate how to use less and be creative with what we have without using or producing big amounts of waste. Encouraging the kids to pick up their own garbage after snack, turning off taps if not being used, having fun with nature scavenger hunts, building forts with dead trees, cooking over a fire, etc. Moreover, I think its important for us to teach this generation to live sustainably without using notorious amounts of energy and producing toxic waste that is destroying our planet.

    This park holds so many memories, as it is around the corner from my grandparents' home. As a child I was taken to the park for picnics, community events, and casual strolls. The vastness and range of activities provided by the park allow for everyone to have an enjoyable time.
