Chinatown, Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario

Ottawa's Chinatown is home to many Chinese restaurants, but don't be fooled - it offers so much more diversity than its name suggests. Chinatown shows multiculturalism at its finest, and here you'll find restaurants and shops of so many cultures - Chinese but also Japanese, Korean, Middle Eastern, Thai, Latin American, and more. Warning: there may or may not be more Vietnamese pho restaurants than Chinese restaurants.

Not hungry? It's still worth taking a stroll down this stretch of Somerset Street West to check out the abundance of murals and other street art that contributes to this neighborhood's character and vibrancy.

Chinatown has lots of places to eat (the western end pho shop after pho shop, basically) but I like to come here mostly to pick up more niche grocery items. Once a month I go on a little grocery adventure at Kowloon (East Asian), Shiraz (Middle Eastern), and Little Latin America which are all at one intersection.

There are a lot of hidden gems in Chinatown! Don't let the sometimes shabby signage fool you :) Look out for the murals as well.
