The Dundurn Castle is a 40-room, Italianate-style villa built to completion in 1835, by architect Robert Charles Wetherell. It was once home to Sir Allan Napier MacNab, a railway magnate, lawyer, and former Premier of the United Canadas from 1854 to 1856.
Today, officially owned by the City of Hamilton since 1900, the Dundurn Castle tells the story of a family who lived an affluent lifestyle in the upstairs, while servants lived and worked below the stairs. This castle is now designated a National Historic Site of Canada.
