Northwest "Rebellion" Monument

This monument was raised to recognize the soldiers who were sent west in 1885 to fight against the Métis and First Nations people of the Northwest Resistance. The statue was made by 19 year old Walter Allward.

Ironically, the Métis Nation of Ontario visits the site every year on November 16th to honour the anniversary of the unjust execution of Louis Riel in Regina, Saskatchewan. On this day, the Métis raise flags, pray, lay wreaths, and celebrate their culture and the bravery of their ancestors who fought to protect their way of life.
