Pan Am / Parapan Am Fields

Pan Am / Parapan Am Fields

Hoskins Avenue and Tower Road, Toronto, Ontario

Grass playing fields at the University of Toronto are transforming into two world-class field hockey pitches to host one of the world’s most popular sports for the 2015 Games. Located at the university’s St. George Campus, the fields will be Ontario’s first international-calibre field hockey venue and will double the number of fields available for the sport in the Greater Toronto Area. The facility is also expected to be the highest quality two-turf facility in Canada, according to Field Hockey Canada. The two international Global Class 1 water-based turf fields — a warm-up pitch and a competition pitch — are the standard required by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) for all international competitions. Water-based turf fields are irrigated before, during and after games in accordance with international sport federation regulations. The wetted-down turf reduces friction on the ball and creates an ideal field of play. But the fields will be used for more than field hockey. During the 2015 Parapan Am Games, teams in football 5-a-side and football 7-a-side will compete here.
