Point Pleasant Park is a favourite amongst Halifax locals and visitors alike. It is each a cultural, natural and historic asset to our city. Point Pleasant Park is in the south end of the peninsula, and is beautifully surrounded by the ocean on all sides. Whether you are going there for a solo run, a picnic with friends, or on a date to see live theater by the sea, you can expect to see Haligonians use the park to gather, play and enjoy the outdoors. Hit by a Hurricane Juan in 2003, it is fascinating to watch the forest regrow and regenerate with native species, and if you're lucky, you can find the best blackberry patches in the summer (among other delicious edible plants)! Most Haligonians feel truly blessed to live by the Atlantic ocean, and Point Pleasant Park provides the perfect access point to breathe in the salty sea air and watch the boats go by. Fun fact! Halifax rents the site from the British Government for 1 shilling (about 10 cents) a year, with a 999-year lease.
