    guestBook Guestbook Family Picnic

It was just another weekend out with my family, obeying out old tradition of going out every weekend. This one started off a bit weirdly. we were sitting at home, and I suddenly had this weird craving for Chinese food. And somehow, we ended up at high park as a result of out attempt of finding a good chinese restaurant. Well, this wasn't the first time that happened, because living in a country where there's so much potential and so many possibilities, there's never "nothing to do". And hands down, I can say with complete honesty, that I live in the absolute best country in the world. Lucky me.

My family has this tradition; every weekend we all go out somewhere. The reason behind it is because we believe that since we do live in a country where there's so much to see and do, and we all have the freedom to, why should we shut ourselves at home? If you look at other countries in the world, people don't even have the privilege or ability to go out with their families. I remember back when I was growing up in my home country; Pakistan, there really weren't that many places to go out, and it wasn't safe either. There wasn't much to see or do, and even if there was, bad things happening around us or in other places around us would just make us feel unsure and unsafe. Back then, I never went on picnics with my family; we never went to parks, or on long drives, or to farmlands strawberry-picking, or the zoo, or fishing, or camping, or rock climbing. And honestly speaking, I never really expected to, because back then, I didn't even know we could. I didn’t know because I’d never had the chance to experience it. But ever since we moved to Canada, there just hasn't been a boring weekend. Just jumping into the car and unknowingly driving off to another new park or landmark is so normal to us now. Just knowing that there's still so much to do and see, sitting at home just seems like such a waste. If I try to count all of the things that I have done and all the places that I have seen being here in Canada, it still is nothing compared to all that I have yet to explore in this country that I can proudly call home.
