The eastern gateway to 3000 km2 of awe-inspiring natural beauty in Riding Mountain National Park, the East Gate Registration Complex was established as a site of national historical significance in July 1995. Last of its kind, the hand-hewn log and indigenous stone entrance is a carefully-maintained example of the traditional Canadian Rustic Design style of architecture that was popular in the creation of the network of National Parks from 1887-1937.

Standing on the curve of the road as an enduring symbol of the link between auto-tourism and outdoor recreation the East Gate’s truss bridge spans the twin pavilions with Highway 19 running through it. Constructed in 1933-34, the East Gate was part of the Federal Government's Depression Relief Program which helped put 1200 men back into employment working in Riding Mountain on various projects.
