The Alaska Highway

The Alaska Highway

Unorganized, YT, Whitehorse, Yukon Territory

Constructed during the Second World War, in the case of an invasion by the north, the Alaska Highway is now one of the roads connecting Canada to, well, Alaska! You can trace the history of the roads by looking at the signs. Curiosities along the road includes Watson Lake Signpost Forest (where you can actually see hundreds of signposts) and Burwash Landing and its world largest gold pan!

The Alaska Highway was built along the mountains and you can have a breathtaking view of the mountains. Bears and other wild animals might walk beside your car, even during daytime. One of the most interesting things is to spot goats hanging on the size of a steep mountain. There are many places to stop the car and take pictures or have picnic. Of all the places I've been in Canada, this is definitively the most memorable one.
