In the early days in the town of Rivers, wine was commonplace, card games were continuous, and brawls frequent. As for the offspring of many newcomers, the wildwest atmosphere was God's greatest gift. Curfew was nonexistent. There were neither schools nor classes. Life was just a heady dream - a prolonged vacation.
Eventually settlement and development was successful by "leaps and bounds". New institutions were developed including banks, railroads, church, commercial stores, more farmers and inhabitants, schools, and recreation.
