The White Rock pier is considered the city’s number one attraction. Built in 1914, the pier was originally constructed after the Federal Minister of Marine and Fisheries came to White Rock in the summer of 1913 and locals made sure that he experienced the perils of walking along the temporary floating docks and platforms at high tide.
While the pier officially opened in September of 1914, additions were made in April of 1915 to extend the pier an additional 1,600 feet. It went on to face years of weather damage and neglect until the 1970s when the “Save-The-Pier” Committee petitioned to have it restored. The federal government
and the City of White Rock contributed funds to its reconstruction and the pier was officially re-opened on November 13, 1977. It was then declared a Heritage site by the Heritage Trust of B.C. in April of 1982.
In 1994 a pedestrian promenade was built, which allows the public to stroll for 2 kilometres along one of the most beautiful vistas around: Semiahmoo Bay.
