This is an image of the Canadian Rockies I photographed on my Summer vacation to Alberta. The sky is so hazy because of a large wildfire that had started in the forest. Luckily, there was fire fighters nearby to put out the blaze before it got out of hand. This photograph reminds me of Canada's natural beauty, the responsibility of Canadians to protect it.

Upon reaching the top of my climb in the Canadian Rockies, I am surrounded by a panoramic view of magnificent mountains. Awestruck by nature's beauty, a sense of freedom engulfs me as I see nothing but opportunity all around me. I realize this is what it means to be Canadian. I, Jacqui Nash—only eighteen years old from a little town in southern Alberta called High River—feel insignificant compared to the contents of my view, yet I feel honoured to be a part of it and I stand proud of the freedom we have in this country. Not only are we free to explore Canada's stunning lands—from the Rockies, to the east coast, to the west coast, to the most northern snowy land—but we are free to explore without fear of oppression or violation of rights; free to worship without fear of being killed; free to associate with fellow Canadians; free to learn and grow—I am free and I am proud of the values this country is built upon. Visiting the Rocky Mountains makes me realize I can feel the same freedom I feel in the mountains every single day no matter where I am in Canada because Canadian soldiers died to secure this country's liberty. This place makes me proud and grateful to live in Canada because it is a beautiful country because of its land, its constitution, and its people.

“Elbow Falls,” I’ve heard about this place. Where the water runs through the mountains and the people hike along its trail. Where complete freedom and peace feel within reach. This is only the third time I’ve experienced it for myself but it really only took one time for it to become my place of refuge. You see, for as long as I can remember, I’ve always been the anxiety ridden one. Searching for a place to feel inspired and ready to go on despite wanting to curl up and cry. The second I stepped foot on the soil of this beautiful place, I felt like I could touch peace and hold freedom in my hand. The way the water flows between the mountains and the breeze carries its droplets of water through the air to land on the surface of your skin. The way the trees line the falls, all the way down and through. The way the sun shines on the water allowing your reflection to show and the way you can hear the water rush down over the rocks, from wherever you are in the place… it brings peace. It brings reflection. I hiked the trails on the mountains surrounding the falls the last time I was there and the only thing that came out of it was goodness! I arrived feeling frustrated and anxious about everything in life and I left feeling freedom and peace upon my shoulders. I also managed to leave with my photos capturing my experience, such as this one. This is my Canada. The place where I feel most inspired and ready to conquer the world. The place where I feel most connected to everyone and everything around me. The place where anxiety and depression and the cares of the world don’t matter; because peace is touchable and freedom is in the palm of my hand. This is the place no one else has and no one else is known for; this is my Canada - the Canadian Rockies.

I have grown up in a rural town my entire life with a perfect view of the Rockies from my backyard. No matter what changes in my life, the Rockies always remain a symbol of strength and stability for me to look upon every day. To me the Rockies are a symbol of Canada and its strength as a nation, standing strong through even the most trying times, and being able to see them every day makes me feel connected to and proud of this great country.

I have visited Banff and Jasper National Parks twice and they are the best. It seems that these places have not been touched by humans even though there are many tourists. Pictures taken are so surprising that the picture viewers think they are artificial!
The contiguous national parks of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho, as well as the Mount Robson, Mount Assiniboine and Hamber provincial parks, studded with mountain peaks, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, canyons and limestone caves, form a striking mountain landscape. The Burgess Shale fossil site, well known for its fossil remains of soft-bodied marine animals, is also found there.
