  Go early, at least 45 minutes before sunrise. Take the time to bundle up *yes, even during the summer, and then head out on the well-groomed boardwalks and paths. You'll eventually stumble across the most easterly point in North America (except Greenland, if you count it). It is SO worth the cold and bitter winds to be the first person to see the sun rise. Even if the clouds are out, you will FEEL the change!

  I'm originally from St. John's, NL, but moved away at a young age. I went back to visit and my cousin took me here. Absolutely beautiful.

  Cape spear is a special place for many people, but my connection is even a bit stronger... my ancestors, the Cantwell family, were actually the lighthouse keepers at Cape Spear for many generations. My great-grandmother was even born in the Cape Spear lighthouse! When ever I visit my favourite thing to do is imagine what it must have been like for them to live alone with the never ending ocean in their backyard. I bet it must have been difficult in the harsh winters but the beautiful summer days must have made up for it! The sun was shining and the sky was clear the day I visited... I even saw a couple of whales! I hope everyone else who visits enjoys it as much as me :)
