The Diefenbunker is a four-story, 300 room, 100,000 square foot underground bunker, and was meant to house 535 Canadian government officials and military officers in the event of a nuclear war. Shrouded in mystery, the Diefenbunker, nicknamed after then Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, was designed and built in secrecy during the crest of Cold War fear, between 1959 and 1961 (1). The museum houses Cold War artifacts, a library and an archive (2).

    When I was younger my dad and I visited the Diefenbunker. We had a great time leisurely looking through all of the rooms in the bunker and were both amazed by how bug the bunker really was. I loved seeing the art based on the cold war around the museum and reading the many interesting plaques explaining each part. My favourite part of the whole trip was when my dad, a very serious man, sat in one of the chairs at a office table and pretended that he was the prime minister. That was a trip that brought me closer to my dad and will be a trip that I will never forget.

    The photo is if the radiation detecter at the end of the decontamination showers. It was a gripping tour with a great guide and lots of knowledge.
