Irishtown Nature Park is located on the Northern outskirts of the city of Moncton, New Brunswick, and offers its visitors multiple kilometers of hiking trails. As one of Canada's largest urban parks, it measures 9 square kilometers and is home to a large lake (1.20 square kilometers) used by many for kayaking and canoeing purposes. Signage throughout the trails relates to the park's history and environmental aspects, and offers educational information about Moncton's first water supply, dating back to the mid 19th century.

The park's multi-use trails are accessible for walkers, runners, wheelchairs, and cyclists all year round, as they remain groomed in the Winter season. Irishtown Nature Park is also home to many species and offers exceptionally great birdwatching, as a feeding station maintained year-round attracts a wide variety of birds such as chickadees, nuthatches, yellow finches, purple finches, hairy and downy woodpeckers, and doves.

This park is stunning and peaceful all year round. My favourite of its trails is "Scout", as it runs along the lake for most of its length and is the most narrow of the trails. Its quick turns and forest feels cannot help but make you feel completely indulged in nature. During my visit this past weekend, I saw many birds in the park, including the woodpecker in the photo attached. He, too, seemed to be having a wonderful afternoon.
