Kensington Market is a distinctive multicultural neighbourhood in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Market is an older neighbourhood and one of the city's most well-known. In November 2006, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Robert Fulford wrote in 1999 that "Kensington today is as much a legend as a district. The (partly) outdoor market has probably been photographed more often than any other site in Toronto."

Kensington Market is a diverse multi-cultural neighbourhood located in the heart of Downtown Toronto. Whether you've got a hankering for some Dim sum or you need some budget friendly vintage clothing, this unique neighbourhood has it all. For Torontonians and tourists alike, Kensington is a must-see destination. I mean, the art on the side of the buildings would simply be out of place just about anywhere else. The narrow streets and low rise buildings create a cozy atmosphere, just make sure to watch out for cars! All in all, I love Kensington for the wide array of cuisine options and the eclectic feel the vibrant architecture brings. Next time you're near College and Spadina be sure to check it out!

Kensington Market to me feels like another world buried within downtown Toronto. I am always struck by the amalgamation of cultures that can be found there, that all take part in the creation of a single Kensington culture. This photo juxtaposes a canoe against a sign labelled "Chinese Herbs" in a rather desolate-looking alley of the Market. To me, the canoe is a symbol of the Canadian frontier, what this notion evokes for me is a comparison between the struggles of the pioneers who made this country what it is today, and the struggles faced by modern immigrants.

It's probably been 20 years since my last visit to Kensington. Still smells the same and many of the same places are still here. Mare Pizza for one. All the hipsters hang at Jimmy's Coffee.

Visiting Kensington Market showed the variety of things that you can buy, with a personal feel to what you can see and buy there. There seemed to be a more personable feel and quality there that you can't always get at markets similar to it in others cities.
