Mount Allison traces its roots to 1839 when Sackville merchant Charles Frederick Allison proposed the creation of a school of elementary and higher learning. The Mount Allison Academy, a school for boys, opened in 1843, followed by the Ladies College in 1854. In fact, in 1875, Annie Lockhart became the first woman in the British Empire to receive a Bachelor degree when she graduates with a Bachelor of Science.
Fast forward almost a hundred and fifty years, Mount Allison's reputation extends well beyond their consistent #1-ranking in Maclean's Magazine.
