The Museum of Vancouver (MOV) (formerly the Vancouver Museum) is a local museum located in Vanier Park, Vancouver, British Columbia. The MOV is the largest civic museum in Canada and the oldest in Vancouver. The museum was founded in 1894 and recently went through a major re-visioning process in 2008. It creates Vancouver-focused exhibitions and programs that encourage conversations about what was, is, and can be Vancouver. Permanent exhibitions tell the city’s stories from the early 1900s to the late 1970s and are complemented by contemporary, groundbreaking feature exhibits.

Was such a good exhibit! Watching the shift in fashion through the depression and second world war was very interesting. It's well curated, well designed, and well worth the visit!

On an unrelated note: it took me a while to figure out the sculpture out front, and everytime I see it now it makes me think Pokémon.

The Museum of Vancouver shares its space with the Planetarium and Space Centre, which is where my parents were married. It was really cool for me to look around the museum and especially to see the giant crab fountain in the front. I loved looking out the back window of the museum where you can see downtown Vancouver through a whole bunch of blossoming cherry trees. My favorite exhibit will only be up until September 2014, so go see it now! It's called "rewilding Vancouver" and features many different animal and plant species that have gone missing from the area and ones that have been introduced. Perhaps the most interesting part was the suggestions for bringing these species back to Vancouver through efforts such as turning out city nights at light or bringing salmon spawning streams back into the open air instead of burying them under roads. The museum is a lot of fun and definitely a gorgeous place to visit.
