No matter where you go, everything is close by! I love the colourful houses in the old part of town, I enjoyed visiting the many churches, each with its unique features. I loved the farmer's market on Thursday at the local arena and the friendliness of the people. One of my favourite spots is the Fisherman Museum, with its impressive collection of artifacts and the history of the many ships that came around Lunenburg (not forgetting the famous Bluenose). There are so many things to do!

I absolutely love this place. It so original, untouched, but confident in their own personality. The colours are exceptionally unique and amazing, and all of the buildings are incredibly beautiful and historic.

How cute? It's the only place you can go where you can smell the beautiful ocean and see the most beautiful boats in the docks. Whale-watching, the amazing, authentic Beavertails Canadian dessert, and salty air, what more can you ask for in a small town with a courteous population. The best part: a beautiful, reconstructed barn into a bar and grill on the ocean-front, to share a toast and reflect on Canada's beauty and quaintness only a true Canadian will appreciate.

If you’re going to visit Lunenburg, make sure you enter via Tannery Road rather than via Highway 3. It seems trivial, but this way, your first glimpse of the town is from the other side of the harbour, where you can see the entire panorama at once. The sight is stunning: brightly coloured houses, perched in grid patterns on the side of a steep hill, the masts of ships docked in the harbour (including the recently re-furbished and re-launched Bluenose II), and the spires of the towns many beautiful churches rising about the tree line. This was my third time visiting Lunenburg, and it never gets old. Even in the winter when many of the tourist attractions are closed up, it’s fun to walk around and take in the beautiful old houses, visit the local art galleries and boutiques, and enjoy a good meal by the waterfront.
You are struck by the sense of history almost immediately. This is a typical small Nova Scotian town in so many ways, but it has the unique characteristic of also being one of the oldest. Many of the locals can trace their heritage back to the original group of approximately 1400 settlers who arrived on these shores in 1753. There is a palpable sense of pride in this heritage, and it has become an important part of Lunenburg’s identity.
Si vous avez l’intention de visiter Lunenburg, assurez-vous d’y entrer par Tannery Road plutôt que par la Route 3. Ça semble trivial, mais de cette façon, votre premier coup d’œil de la ville se fera depuis l’autre côté du port, et vous pourrez admirer tout le panorama d’un seul coup. La vue est superbe : des maisons de bois aux couleurs vives construites sur le flanc d’une colline assez abrupte sont alignées selon un quadriller rigoureux. Les mats des bateaux au mouillage ou amarrés dans le port (dont le Bluenose II, récemment remis en état), et les flèches des nombreuses églises de la ville s’élèvent au-dessus de la ligne des arbres. C’était ma troisième visite à Lunenburg, et elle ne vieillit pas. Même en hiver, lorsque la plupart des attractions touristiques sont fermées, c’est un plaisir de flâner au hasard des rues et des magnifiques vieilles demeures, de s’arrêter dans les galeries d’art et les boutiques, et de savourer un bon repas sur le front de mer.
Le très fort sentiment de son histoire s’impose presque immédiatement. C’est une petite bourgade néo-écossaise typique par bien des aspects, mais elle a également le caractère unique des plus vieilles d’entre elles. Bien des résidents peuvent retracer leurs origines jusqu’aux 1453 colons débarqués sur ce rivage en 1753. Palpable, la fierté qui accompagne ce patrimoine fait partie de l’identité de Lunenburg.

this site was considered for its international importancr because of many reasons. one being that this town was important in canadas international history
Lunenburg is the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. Established in 1753, it has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the home country. The inhabitants have managed to safeguard the city's identity throughout the centuries by preserving the wooden architecture of the houses, some of which date from the 18th century.
