Parliament Hill

Parliament Hill is the home of Canadian democracy and a proud national symbol. It is the heart of Canada’s federal government, where appointed senators and elected members of Parliament from across the country meet to make laws that affect the lives of every Canadian. And it is much more. Parliament Hill is where you can explore figures, events and achievements that have shaped the country’s past and continue to influence its present and future. Look closely and you can uncover an image of Canada, its people, history and culture.

In 1987 I was a member of the Grenadier Guards Regiment from Montreal making up one Company of the Ceremonial Guard. We performed the Changing the Guard Ceremony on Parliament Hill as well as taking part in sentry duty at Rideau Hall. I was 18 years old and one of only five women participating that year from CGG. Two years later I returned to the Ceremonial Guard in an administrative capacity. I had the great privilege of filming the parade each day from the roof of Centre Block. From the ground, it appears that the roof forms a peak, but there's actually a small flat area one can stand on. Both of those experiences stand amongst the many highlights of my life thus far, and Parliament Hill will always be a special place for me.

Lots of memorable visits here during my life. However, I have added it to my bucket list because I would like to be here to celebrate at Canada Day on July 1st!
