Calgary's iconic Peace Bridge straddles the Bow River between Prince's island park and 10th Street northwest. Connecting the trendy Eau Claire and Sunnyside neighbourhoods, the bridge is a popular attraction for tourists, weddings, outdoor enthusiasts, and everyday Calgarians. The Peace Bridge was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and opened in 2012.
The Peace Bridge was ranked among the top 10 public spaces of 2012 by DesignBoom, a global architectural publication, alongside other innovative spaces in Spain, Singapore, Columbia and elsewhere across the globe. Despite initial controversy over the bridge's multi-million dollar price tag, it has become a popular pedestrian and cyclist connection for all.
