George Brown College, St. James Campus - My Life - My College! guestBook Guestbook   Feb 16, 2015

To tell you the reason why, I need to explain a little bit about me and my background...
I came to Canada in 2013 for my further studies because my husband wanted me to grow in my career and see me successful. I got married to him in May 2013. We didn't get enough time to spend as my health deteriorated and I was operated for Kidney Stones in August 2013. When I came to Canada I was all alone, away from family. All I had was my college and I didn't expect anything from it. I started volunteering and got more connected to my college and everybody around. My college gave me the hope to survive, my college became my family, I shared both my joys and happiness here. I met students from different cultures and backgrounds here. My professors understood my problems and gave me solutions like my actual parents, I went and explored Toronto with the students from my college whom I have never spoken to, I got involved in community through my college and helped people. My college inspired me to be the person I am today. I was selected for Student Leadership Retreat because the student life saw a Leader in me.
It's too difficult for an International Student to leave everything behind (Family, home, happiness) and for me to leave my newlywed life, it was more tough. I started putting on weight and there was weird puffiness on my face. (I got Hypothyroid) People would stare at me in the public places, my old clothes for winter were too tight now, it was my college that had a totally different view on me. Fellow students whom I never have spoken to would call me cute, that built my confidence. My college's International Centre had Free Used Winter clothes for International Students(I was saved in winter). I was recognized as a good student and invited for various student panelist sessions in my college where I was appreciated.

I do miss my family, but not that much anymore because I have another family here to support me in all my thick's and thins of Life, My College- George Brown. And this is the place I connect and get inspired the most, because all I have to do is BE ME!!!
