Trip to Flowerpot Island guestBook Guestbook   Feb 27, 2015

I immigrated to Canada from England, and I immigrated to England from Bangladesh. In truth, I never felt as if I didn't belong. Wherever I lived, I adapted. I felt like a true Canadian long before I received legitimate citizenship.

However, it was on this trip boating across strikingly blue waters, with the sun beating down on my face, the freshwater spray in my face, and a cool, unpolluted wind in my hair that I truly felt the magic of Canada. Perhaps national pride is a strange thing to feel during summer vacation in a little community like Tobermory. But I couldn’t help but feel an unbridled joy for what I felt was a true Canadian experience given to me by my country: to be jetting across the cleanest waters I have ever seen to hike across a pristine island with fellow Canadian tourists of all nationalities. As an immigrant and an avid environmentalist, this is my Canada.
