The National War Memorial guestBook Guestbook   Dec 7, 2014

The National War Memorial is extremely important to Canada`s military identity. The National War Memorial was designed and created to honour the lives of Canadian troops who have served in the many wars and missions that the Canadian military has participated in. If we look at Canada's military and war history, we can see how parts of Canada's identity and culture has been created because of war. During WW1 and WW2, we saw that women were able to work in male dominated fields, working in factories producing war materials, while raising children at home. We saw men going overseas for the protection of others. What the National War Memorial does is remember and acknowledge the work of the thousands of men and women who work hard to keep Canada as a nation protected from potential enemies, who work within Canadian communities who are in need of support, and serve the needs of other peacekeeping nations. I would hope that this Memorial helps people remember all of the good things that Canada has a country, like a free, democratic and multicultural society- which is partially brought to us by our military protecting our rights to these things.

Having recently moved to Ottawa, I frequently go to the Parliament Buildings and the lookout when the weather is nice. The ground at Parliament always has something going on- even when there is not much going on, it is always nice just to walk around.
