Sackville Waterfowl Park

Located in the heart of Sackville New Brunswick is the 55-acre Sackville Waterfowl Park, winner of Environment Canada's National Award for Environmental Achievement. This area is extremely popular with the local community and is the perfect spot for an afternoon stroll.

The wetland is a traditional waterfowl staging area and migration stop for black ducks, green-winged teal, blue-winged teal, wood ducks and ring necked ducks among other species. The birds feed on the wild rice stands.

This park, with four kilometres of trails, boardwalks and viewing platforms, was established in 1988 jointly between Conserving Canada's Wetlands and the Town of Sackville. It is home to approximately 160 species of birds and over 175 species of plants. During the Summer season, the park offers guided tours that include binoculars, hands-on activities, and a tasty, locally-made snack. Discover the history of Tantramar and of the Mi’kmaq and Acadian settlements in our area, the Acadian dyking system, the importance of our agricultural history, and methods used to restore marsh areas to wildlife habitats.

Identify the species of waterfowl, birds and plants that inhabit the park, and learn to calculate a tree’s age with a hug. Our knowledgeable guides have a backpack full of tools and demonstration items including a 360-degree bug viewer, dragonfly eye lenses and fake muskrat droppings.
