TOURS- Saturdays June 2nd to September 1st: 11:15 am, 12:15 pm, 1:45 pm, 2:45 pm and 3:45 pm.

The current cathedral is the fifth built on this site since 1818. The 1908 structure, which preceded the current building, was a splendid basilica that was destroyed by fire in 1968. The new building, designed by renowned Franco-Manitoban architect Étienne Gaboury, incorporates the façade and remaining walls of the 1908 building. An unusual architectural achievement, the Cathedral attracts thousands of visitors each year.

I love the juxtaposition of the old and new buildings.

This statue is outside of the University of Saint Boniface. It shows the beaten and bruised Louis Riel and the walls surrounding him that symbolize the support of many Canadians that could not save him. They surround the statue to show that he is now protected in Canadian History. A beautiful, unique statue that is often despised by the public but adored by artists.
