This section of the park is one of those 'must sees' everytime I visit Vancouver. It was fun to check out the workmanship on the totem poles with my parents.

Stanley Park Totems

While visiting British Columbia in August 2014, I saw the beautiful Stanley Park Totems for the first time. These amazing totems connected me to a culture different than my own. The relationships the Haida culture has with the land is absolutely inspiring. Seeing these beautiful works of art and learning about the Haida culture was the highlight of my summer.

A Walk in the Park

I took a break from my studies on a relatively warm day and was immediately glad I did. Walking through Stanley park with no destination in mind was calming and peaceful and just what I needed. I loved walking to the Totem Poles (although I got a little lost--make sure you follow the signs!) and learned a lot about some of British Columbia's history before it was officially a province. The totem poles are beautiful and definitely worth checking out.

On my way back, I got lost again and found myself at a huge rose garden, which is also definitely worth the slight detour. A walk through Stanley Park is the perfect way to de-stress and relax after a long work day -- or week.

The green areas in the middle of the park are the perfect spot for a picnic or a walk after visiting the park's other attractions, like the aquarium. Lord Stanley, the Governer General in 1889, when he officially dedicated the park, worked hard to make it a place that everyone could enjoy. There's a lot to explore and discover here: watch for squirrels and songbirds that make the park their home, venture out to the rose gardens, or make your way to the brilliant totem poles to learn more about the original inhabitants of beautiful Stanley Park.
