Discover Ottawa’s best kept secrets! The story of the BYTOWN MUSEUM begins with the Women’s Canadian Historical Society of Ottawa (WCHSO), founded in 1898 who quickly amassed a collection of artifacts relating to the history of Bytown/Ottawa. In 1917, the BYTOWN MUSEUM opened its doors. Proudly Ottawa’s oldest community museum, the BYTOWN MUSEUM opened its doors in its current home, alongside the Rideau Canal, in June 1952.
