Recognition of Canadian SolidarityGuestbook Feb 26, 2015
This year, I have been so incredibly lucky to have seen a wealth of nature and beauty throughout my road trips throughout Canada. It is with my fullest acknowledgment that these places - from Pemberton to Squamish to Whistler - have been experienced with privilege on the unceded Coast Salish Territories of the First Nations people.
As an ethnic-Canadian, I am thankful for how much I have learned and have yet to learn through the indigenous friends and leaders who have educated me in all that they do - from defending these lands and waters from invasion of corporations, to their process of healing through decolonization, to the importance of dialogue and acknowledgment of history. I am thankful for friends and people who have pushed to become better allies towards these efforts and have thus, helped me to become a better ally in understanding and becoming involved with these fights.
This is what it means to be Canadian.
